Registered Yoga Teacher
A
life-long dancer, I moved to New York City from the Chicago 'burbs
to follow my dreams! I was happily consumed by the world of modern
dance, and was first exposed to yoga through dance technique classes.
After college, I danced for several companies and choreographed
and showed my own work.
I was particularly fascinated by the power of dance to communicate
and express the human experience. I knew that I would continue
my studies to find out more about this seemingly "magic"
connection between the body and mind.
I took my first real yoga class right out of college and was
quite frustrated over the fact that I could not sit still! "
I'm a dancer," I thought, "I'm totally in my body!"
Intrigued, I returned to class. Sitting still became easier, but
what I also came to realize was that my body was telling more
about me! Indeed, I had, and still have, a hard time sitting,
waiting and being with what is, right now. The process of simply
sitting still has taught me that I have the control to be grounded,
connected and centered and to respond to my life from this place.
Hatha yoga is called a "practice" because it is just
that- a constant practice of these wonderful, fulfilling skills!
I enrolled in a yoga certification program and learned even more
about myself through the wisdom of my body. Later that year I
began teaching yoga and simultaneously started a master's program
to study dance/movement therapy. I was overwhelmed with information
in psychology, movement observation and analysis, therapy and
creative process. I am constantly challenged and delighted by
this work!!
Now I continue to teach and work in clinical settings. I feel
honored to have the opportunity to work with all kinds of people
from city hospitals to upscale spas! Everyone can benefit from
a real connection to their bodies, in whatever way is appropriate
for them.
I continue to dance and develop my own yoga practice. I integrate
several styles in my classes, including Integral, Vinyasa and
Anusara. I have completed a prenatal teaching certificate with
Mia Borgatta, one of the first yogis in NYC to modify the yoga
session for pregnant women. Yoga prepares the body and heart for
conception, supports a healthy pregnancy and is the finest choice
for postnatal health.
I look forward to the opportunity to support your journey!
