Yoga and Infertility
Yoga is effective in addressing infertility because it:
- promotes a healthy life style
- targets the endocrine system, balancing hormone production
- addresses structural alignment
- stimulates and strengthens the reproductive organs
- heightens awareness of the connection between your body and mind
- provides stress management and relaxation techniques

One of the many benefits of yoga is balance. Yoga works on multiple levels; physical, emotional, hormonal, energetic, psychological, systemic, etc. Your practice should be based on your needs. An individualized practice will be developed to suit your lifestyle and body and will work as a compliment to the other treatments you are receiving.
Particular yoga poses (asanas) can stimulate and balance the endocrine system, especially the ovaries, hypothalamus and pituitary glands. They can also strengthen reproductive organs. Structural and functional problems can be addressed as well by activating the reproductive organs.
Meditation, breathing and relaxation techniques promote a sense of peace, wellness and a greater connection to the self. In yogic philosophy, you are already whole; the practice leads you back to the experience of it!
Yoga and IVF
Yoga is a safe an effective form of exercise and stress release throughout your IVF process. The sooner you start a yoga practice, the more “in tune” you will be with your body as it responds to the procedure. Your practice will be modified to suit your phase of treatment, becoming gentler with continued attention to the energy in the reproductive environment. Restorative yoga postures will be used to help elicit the relaxation response. Breathing, meditation and visualization will be geared toward creating the space in your body, mind and heart for conception. Yoga should not be practiced after the transfer for a time best determined by your doctor. Please speak with your doctor about his or her particular recommendations for your case.
